Public transport in Austria |
|
Austria has a very good public transport network. Trains are the main means of transport for medium or long trips within the country. Buses further connect you to smaller towns or villages.
Trains are very reliable. You should use them always if possible. Tickets are reasonably priced and conditions in the trains are really good. Prices are calculated based on the distance you travel. You can buy your tickets in almost all train stations, onboard in some trains and online on www.oebb.at.
Travelling within Austria by plane is possible, since major cities have airports. It is not a practical way to get around though. If you add the check-in and boarding times to your flight, you get to almost the same duration as for a train travel. Flights are definitely more expensive then trains, so most people choose the train to get from one city to another. Austria has airports in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and Linz.
