Getting in Nice

Most tourists arrive in Nice by plane. Nice Airport is very big and modern, with all the facilities you would expect. You can get to the city center in many ways, depending on the time you want to spend in traffic and the budget. The most convenient are the airport express buses. These cost €4 one way and have a special place to put your luggage. You usually buy the ticket from the driver, but there is also a ticket booth right in the station. There are two airport express bus lines. 98 is going to the main bus station in the city (Gare Routiere) and 99 is going to the train station (Gare Nice Ville SNCF).

The cheapest way to get from airport to the city is to take the regular bus number 23. It costs only €1 one way and is very reliable. It stops however in many more stations than the airport express bus, so the trip is longer. It may be also more crowded, especially during the summer. You also don't have a special place for your luggage.

Harbor in Nice

Driving in Nice and around the city, to the neighbouring resorts, is usually a pleasure. The beauty of the French Riviera is easily discovered by car, since the road passes through the resorts. Occasional traffic jams and some impolite drivers may make you unhappy with driving at some times.

Nice has both large boulevards and narrow one way streets. It is generally easy to find your way in the city, since there are signs to the main places and attractions. The summer brings a lot of tourists in Nice and many of them come by cars, so the city gets pretty crowded during high season. The worst time to get in Nice is Friday afternoon and the worst time to leave is Sunday afternoon. These are the days when many French and Italians come to spend their weekend in this beautiful resort. Since the roads that you can use to enter the city have a limited capacity, you will end up waiting for a long time in the traffic jam.
