Family friendly places to spend this summer

By | May 29, 2011

Even if some tourists prefer to have fun in loud places while on holiday, many of you may have children and therefore are looking for places where you can relax and have fun altogether. We have made a selection of a few places where both adults and children are welcome and can feel well.

Mallorca, Spain

Mallorca is definitely a very good place for a relaxing holiday, where parents can enjoy the sun and the beautiful sand and sea, while children can have fun in shallow waters in safety. There are also many hotels in Mallorca that offer separate swimming pools and even entertainment programs for children. It’s best to travel there from May to September, but try to avoid August, as it is the busiest time of the year.

All inclusive resorts are available, so that you won’t worry about the money spent above your budget. You probably know that kids would like to buy, taste and try everything in there.

The best beaches in Mallorca are for sure in the south of the island and this is simply because it’s sunniest than in the north. The best known are scattered along the island and one of these is Es Trenc Beach, but it may be too crowded, especially during the weekends. Es Carbo is a short walk from the center of Colonia de Sant Jordi and Es Caragol is a little further away, but they are two exceptional beaches which can only be reached by boat or by foot.

Cala Torta in the village Arta is also worth a visit, as it has easy access by road, although the road is in very poor condition. Cala Mesquida near Capdepera is another beautiful beach, where the dunes are preserved and it’s worth seeing them.

Natural park beaches Mondragó is another option and you can get there easily by car. The natural park of Llevant has less human presence, but access requires a good hike.

Finally, among the best beaches of Mallorca we include Alcudia, one of the island’s cosmopolitan resorts.

Tenerife, Spain

Tenerife is another Spanish destination in top for family friendly places. Numerous and varied attractions can be found here. The southern part of the island is again preferred by tourists, due to the sunny days that last more here than in the north. There is a big waterpark called Aqualand in Avda, or you can choose to ride a camel, to visit the Jungle Park or the Zoo. You can even try a Quad Safari. For parents, Tenerife offers evening shows and a lively nightlife.

Being a volcanic island, Tenerife has black sand to offer, while the golden one is brought from outside. One of the famous beaches with black sand is Playa de Las Americas, where many tourists stop.

Playa de las Teresitas is best known for families with children, as it is the perfect place for sunbathing. It has golden sand brought from Sahara, palm trees that make shadow and the entrance in the see is not steep but is progressing slowly.

For quiet and relaxing days for families, Playa de Los Cristianos is among the best as well. Watersports and children play area are available, but it also offers fishing trips, cruises, diving excursions, glass bottom boats and many more.

La Pinta Beach is family friendly too, as it offers water activities and children entertainment, so it shouldn’t be missed.

Munich, Germany

If you are not that much into going to the seaside, but would like to visit a nice city with beautiful surroundings, than Munich is for you. Besides being famous for Oktoberfest, the city has many attractions for families with children and it has the reputation of an attractive family friendly area.

The Zoo, called Tiepark Hellabrunn, is a perfect place to start: kids will love the place immediately and right from the entrance they can play with the small goats, while parents can enjoy a good beer in the famous Biergartens that can be found actually all over the place.

English Garden (Englisher Garten) is the biggest urban park in Germany. Bathing is allowed in the river Isar that stretches along the park and many families with children sunbathe and relax there. It feels like going to the seaside, except that you won’t find sand. The swans and ducks in the river are eager to get something to eat from you, so your kids will be delighted. A few steps forward and there is also a lake with domestic birds and of course Biergartens around to relax and enjoy a beer.

In Munich everything actually relates to Biergartens, so while having a chat, a beer and a Brezen, children can feed and petty the goats in a yard right next to Hirschgarten. This is the biggest beer garden in Munich actually, with 8,000 seats.

If these activities are not enough to keep you entertained, you can always have a trip to the surrounding lakes like Starnberger See, Chiemsee or Lake Constance. You can do virtually anything here from sunbathing, relaxing in a boat, hiking in the surrounding Alps or enjoying the countryside.

Corfu, Greece

Corfu is for sure the most popular Greek island for family holidays, because it is simply one of the most beautiful places. Corfu is a mixture of green mountain slopes, olive groves, historic towns and lots of beaches with warm, clear water. The sunny climate also has something to do with its popularity. Kalamaki beach is one of the most popular on the island, as Kalamaki means shallow water. You can reach far into the water and it is still not steeping down.

Acqualand in Agios Ioannis is a fantastic attraction and it offers great fun for all ages. It is said that it’s one of the most impressive waterparks in Europe.

In search of a quiet place, you will find the lovely town Agios Gordios. The sandy beach is surrounded by rocky formations, the sea is great for swimming and you can enjoy water sports activities.

Paleokastritsa is definitely a must see if in Corfu and is for sure Corfu’s more treasured place. It is a very traditional place, where you will have a truly Greek experience. Everything from scenery to people will make you feel welcome here.
