Corfu has many resorts scattered across the island. Many of them are close to Corfu Town, but some of the best villages with the finest beaches are in remote locations.
Corfu Town is the capital city of the island and the main port. It doesn’t have popular beaches, but there are a lot of other things to visit. The architecture has Venetian influences. You will find here two Venetian fortresses, the Old one and the New one. You should visit them both, they are really beautiful. The old church of Saint Spyridon is another popular attraction. Corfu Town has quite a good nightlife, with parties and lots of people on the streets.
Acharavi is a very popular tourist destination. It is located 40 km away from Corfu Town. It is a larger resort, with many tourist facilities and good nightlife. There are some good sandy beaches nearby.
Agios Georgios has a very good sandy beach. The village is located on the western side of the island. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, so it is perfect for families.
Agios Matheos is located in the mountains, so it doesn’t have any beach. The village is very beautiful, since it is not crowded with tourists as the beach resorts. It is located about 25 km from Corfu Town. You can get from the village to some good beaches nearby in about 10 – 15 minutes by car.
Agios Stefanos is a very popular village, with one of the best beaches on the island. This beach is sandy and rather big. It is situated 45 km away from Corfu Town.
Benitses is a popular resort with a small pebble beach. It is located about 15 km from Corfu Town. Benitses has all the facilities you would expect from a holiday village. You can also see here the Shell Museum, with an excellent collection of shells, corals and fish.
Dassia is a popular resort, very close to Corfu Town. Its beach has mainly pebbles and is not among the best on the island, but the excellent restaurants, bars, accommodation and nightlife increased its rating.
Gouvia is located 10 km away from Corfu Town. Gouvia is well known for its excellent nightlife, so it is more crowded during the night than during the day. The beach is made up mainly of pebbles.
Kassiopi is one of the popular resorts on the island. It is not very big, but has a nice town center with shops, restaurants and bars. The nightlife is very good here, with people having fun till late in the bars and taverns. Kassiopi is about 40 km away from Corfu Town, less than an hour to drive from the port. The beach in Kassiopi is not very good, it is rather small and has pebbles. There is another very good beach nearby, called Kalamaki. It is much bigger and has only sand. You can reach Kalamki in 10 minutes by car or about half an hour by foot.
Lakones is a very small traditional village, close to the famous Paleokastritsa. It is not popular among tourists, but it’s worth a visit if you want to see the traditional way of life on the island.
Lefkimi is a larger town on the island and the second port here. You can come by ferry from Igoumenitsa to Lefkimi if your accommodation is in the southern part of the island. Lefkimi has some attractions to visit, including the town center and some churches. There are some good beaches nearby, but you won’t find a lot of sand here.
Moraitika is 20 km away from Corfu Town and has a big but quite pebbly beach. It is a popular destination for scuba diving, it even has a diving center that can teach you diving. Moraitika is very appropriate for relaxing, since it is not so crowded as the northern villages.
Nisaki is a small but popular village, 20 km away from Corfu Town. The beach is average, but the atmosphere is very relaxed and you will find here great restaurants, bars and accommodation.
Paleokastritsa is well known for its superb view of the sea. It is one of the most beautiful places on the island. You will find here six small bays with clean turquoise water. The beaches are rather big, but mainly with pebbles. This makes the place perfect for diving, since the water is clear. The distance to Corfu Town is 25 km.
Pelekas is a popular resort located on the western side of the island. It is well known among tourists due to its short distance from great beaches, including the Glyfada. Pelekas offers a great view of the island, since it is situated on a hill. It’s one of the best places to watch the sunset.
Peroulades is a small village, not so popular among tourists. It has a very nice but small beach. This beach is sandy and not crowded at all. Since the village is situated on a hill, the access to the beach is possible by some rather steep stone stairs.
Petriti is located 30 km away from Corfu Town. It is very popular among tourists and has plenty of good restaurants, bars, shops and accommodation. The beaches here are mostly pebbles, but you can stay instead near the pine trees.
Roda is a nice holiday village located 40 km away from Corfu Town. It has a nice beach and many tourist facilities.
Sidari is a very popular resort, crowded with tourists the whole summer. It is located 40 km away from Corfu Town. The beach is quite big and has fine sand. The village has a lot of restaurants, bars and taverns. The nightlife is excellent, with people attending parties or just relaxing with a cocktail till late. Sidari is close to Canal d’Amour, one of the landmarks on the island.
Strinilas is a nice traditional mountain village. There is no beach nearby, but you should come here to see the rural life. The road is quite difficult, but drive slowly and you won’t have any problems. Strinilas is well known for its fine wine, another good reason to visit it.
Vatos is located in the mountains, about 15 km away from Corfu Town. It’s not very popular, despite it’s beauty. It even has a golf course. The landscape nearby is very nice, it is one of the few places on the island with rich vegetation. The famous sandy beaches on the western side of Corfu are very close.
