Corfu Town is the capital city of the Corfu (or Kerkyra in Greek) island and is a very nice place to visit. It doesn’t have great beaches as other towns and villages nearby, but has a great architecture and a nice castle. It is also the main port of the island. Its architecture has been influenced by the many nations that ruled it, including Venetians and Sicilians. There are two Venetian fortresses in the city, the Old one and the New one. You should visit them both, they are really beautiful. The old church of Saint Spyridon is another popular attraction.
Paleokastritsa is one of the most beautiful towns on the island. It is located in an area with beautiful blue water and many caves. There are a lot of boat tours that will bring you very close to these caves.
Achillion Palace was built for Elizabeth (Sissy), the queen of Austria, in 1890. It was one of her favorite summer destinations. The palace is located in Gastouri village. It is nicely decorated and has a beautiful garden.
The Aqualand is a great water park, located near Agios Ioannis village. It is a very nice place for both adults and children. The Aqualand is located near a very beautiful holiday village. The sea is very close, should you decide to try its water too.
Angel Castle or Aggelokastro in Greek is located on the western coast of the island, near Krini. An interesting landmark here is a church carved in a cave. The view from the castle is very beautiful.
Corfu Archaelogical Museum is located in Corfu Town and contains old monuments, statues, pottery, coins and jewelery that show you a part of the island’s history.
Vidos is a very small island close to Corfu Town. It is a very beautiful place to wander around, since there is only a very limited number of buildings on it. You can relax in the nature or at a nice tavern. Even if the island is small, it has some nice beaches, so swimming is not out of the question. You can get to Vidos by boat from Corfu Town, it’s a short trip.
